Issue 3: CITES rules on elephants, whales, turtles

01.10.2000

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, whose secretariat is located at the International Environment House, held its 11th conference of the Parties at UNEP’s Nairobi headquarters in April. Since OPs are held only every two-and-a-half years, they are much-anticipated events on the international environment calendar. This year’s meeting was attended by close to 1,400 participants, including around 700 delegates from 145 governments, 250 journalists, and 400 members of 157 non-governmental, UN, and intergovernmental organizations.
