Developing Country Engagement Officer

Background:
The Country Engagement Officer, based in the IISD Geneva office, will be a focal point for coordinating technical support for national adaptation planning to developing countries. He/she will be responsible for working with developing country contacts to identify opportunities for targeted NAP support, reviewing requests for support received from developing countries, and coordinating and monitoring the provision of this support, which may be through subcontracting and/or in collaboration with other IISD staff and associates. It is expected that a portion of the Country Engagement Officer’s time will be focused on support to countries in the West African region, however, as the program’s work is global in reach support may extend to various countries and regions. As a member of the Resilience Team, the Country Engagement Officer will report to the Director, Resilience, and may provide support to other related Resilience projects as time permits.

Specific tasks:

Working with developing country contacts and conducting desk research to scope and identify needs and potential opportunities for targeted NAP technical support
Reviewing requests for support received from developing countries through the NAP Global Network’s Country Support Hub, and liaising with government contacts to determine the scope of support that could provided in response
Collaborating with the broader IISD Resilience team and other IISD program staff to coordinate expert responses to requests for support
Support for contracting and integration of expert consultants as needed
Coordinating, monitoring, and reporting on the provision of technical support to developing countries
Planning, organizing, and facilitating workshops with government, donor, and non-government stakeholders as required, particularly in English- and French-speaking countries 

Requirements:

Masters degree in a relevant field
Organizational and planning skills, including an ability to manage multiple tasks ranging from simple to more complex, under tight deadlines
Knowledge of climate change adaptation and sustainable development more broadly
Advanced language skills in English and French
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications
Ability to work as part of an international, geographically-distributed team and independently with limited guidance
Ability to travel internationally for work
Strong interpersonal and networking skills
